May a Debt of Love Be Created

Thammapapon, Malisa’s father, owes Thibhit ten million baht but has no money to repay it. Thibhit offers Malisa a marriage proposal in exchange for his daughter. Malisa vaguely remembers hearing something like this somewhere before, but it doesn’t matter if she can’t recall where, because the woman he wants to marry is Tawisa, his older sister, who is unwilling and stubbornly refuses.
Malisa is the youngest in the family and has always remained above problems. This time, Tawisa believes it’s time for her younger sister to do something for the family.
On the day of the agreement, her father and sister dress Malisa up beautifully to try and persuade Thibhit to choose his youngest daughter instead. Thibhit’s face is serious when he hears the proposal. No one knows what he’s thinking, but ultimately, he agrees. Instead of a marriage to pay off the ten million baht debt, he proposes that Malisa work off the debt for fifteen years, with interest calculated at the rate of accrued interest, no reduction in principal. Fifty percent of her salary will be deducted from her salary until the debt is fully repaid.
What?
With his older sister… he practically forgave the debt out of affection. But with Malisa, he’s charging interest on every single baht.
Double standards, clearly!
