Twenty years ago, I met P’ Pong – Chanin Thorat, a passionate plant enthusiast and collector. He’s a trendsetter in the ornamental plant industry and an inspiration to plant lovers from the past to the present. He’s the one who made me fall in love with ornamental plants without even realizing it, whether it’s orchids, hoyas, cacti, spiny pineapples, or snake plants. Whatever group of ornamental plants P’ Pong cultivates and collects, it instantly revitalizes the plant market and makes those plants popular. He’s practically a celebrity in the plant world. Then I met Nong Bee – Pichaya Wachjitphan, a former university professor and actor who became a cactus and succulent collector. He uses his knowledge of genetics to seriously cultivate ornamental plants, successfully producing beautiful and unique hybrids of aloe vera and haworthia that rival those from abroad. And then I met Nong Ohm – Pawapol Supanantanannon, a new generation plant grower and collector who can cultivate and improve many plant groups, including orchids, cacti, and spiny pineapples, resulting in numerous new hybrids. Igniting a love and appreciation for various types of succulents and cacti, this book, “Succulents,” is the result of the collective effort of three authors. It compiles their knowledge gained from experience, along with photographs of over 2,000 species and varieties of succulents grown in Thailand and abroad. Following the success of their book, “Cactus,” published by Ohm last year, this book aims to help new succulent growers and collectors understand the differences between various species and achieve success in cultivation. Although the project was difficult and time-consuming, Baan & Suan Publishing and the authors are confident that this book will be invaluable to all growers and collectors, representing the most comprehensive collection of succulents currently available.
