“What’s all that noise?”
Praeputtan asked, walking around to the front of the house. She stopped short when she saw why Sasithorn had been calling her so loudly.
Right in front of her house, the corrugated iron gate was swung open, and a man stood there, arms crossed, grinning. He was wearing an oversized, trendy Domon shirt, baggy jeans, a high-waisted belt, and a black beret – like something out of a magazine. Beside him was a brand-new, gleaming cart. On top of the cart was a small glass display case, a rectangular grill, several trays, and several bright red, foldable corrugated iron chairs neatly stacked.
“Mr. Dantrai!”
“This is it, your dream come true, Praeputtan. Your own mobile food stall. It’s lightweight, your strong arms can push it easily. You can sell wherever you want, choose your location. And… ta-da!”
Dantrai pulled something out of the cart – four-wheeled roller skates. “These… are skates specifically for escaping the city inspectors. In a real emergency, just abandon the cart and skate away. No need to run and tire yourself out.”
Everyone in the house, even Prince Chattrarapi, stood stunned. Sasithorn, who knew Dantrai well, put her hand to her forehead and muttered softly, “This isn’t a student from my acting school. I’ve never met anyone this stupid. Not a student. Not a student.”
“There’s a basin for washing, a palm-leaf fan in case it’s hot. Oh… and it looks like there’s a hat and an apron too. Where are they? I told them to put them in when I bought them.” Dantrai crouched down and seriously rummaged through the sliding compartment in the middle of the cart.
